This SOP is a work in progress. If you notice anything that is out of date, could be more clear or could be more efficient please update the SOP or add a comment to start a conversation.
Purpose
In this document, you will be walked through the steps to update the New and Pre-Owned links in the showroom of a client website to be the SEF URLs that are linked int he Navigation bar.
Procedure
This is a simple and quick fix to help prevent duplicate content from appearing in SERPs. One of the most difficult places to adjust the SEF URLs is the links in the showroom, illustrated by the image below.
Often, these links contain default URLs that are not the same as the links in the Navigation bar and homepage for the New and Pre-Owned inventory pages. In order to remedy this, you need to follow the steps below:
Navigate to the admin panel of the site you are working on.
In another window, open an instance of both the --xnewinventory and --xpreowned inventory pages.
Return to the admin panel window and go to DSadmin.
Click on Manage Snippets.
On the right hand of the page where it says ‘Default’ click the drop-down and select ‘Slug(SEF)’
For page name, you are going to use ‘showroomlist’
For content, you are going to use ‘newinventory’
Then click ‘New’
Your new snippet is now prepared, so now you will want to follow the same procedure as above, but instead of using ‘newinventory’ you will want to use ‘usedinventory’
In each of those snippets, you are going to want to type the SEF portion of the URL in the content box and hit save.
Lastly, go and double-check that your links work.
