YouTube Video QA Checklist

This SOP is a work in progress. If you notice anything that is out of date, could be more clear or could be more efficient please update the SOP or add a comment to start a conversation.

Purpose

This is a walkthrough of how to perform QA on a YouTube video to ensure their SEO quality.

Procedure

  1. Go to the relevant month's QA column on the YouTube Trello board and select the card that you need to QA.

  2. Once in the card, find the YouTube link posted by Juniper. It should be the most recent link on the card, but pay attention, as sometimes there will be future month’s assignments ahead of your link on the Trello card.

  1. Head over to Google Chrome and in the SEO Chrome Profile, go to the YouTube Channel Switcher

  2. From the list of channels, using the Account Search field, select the dealer's channel that matches the video that you're QAing.

If we do not have managerial privileges for a dealer YouTube account, you will have to do the above portion a bit differently. Instead of accessing the dealer's channel through the YouTube Channel Switcher, you will access the channel by clicking on the icon in the upper right of the screen (see the next slide below), and selecting "Add account" at the bottom of the dropdown box. From there, you will add the username and password that is provided for you on the Trello card to access the dealer's channel.

  1. Ensure that you are in their channel by going to the top right of the screen and clicking on it. You should see the dealer's name.

  1. You should then see a screen full of random videos. Select "My Channel" from the left side menu to get out of there and into the dealer's channel.

  1. Under the Search Bar, you'll click on Video Manager.

  1. In the list of videos that then follows, your video should be at the top. Check the date to make sure, then click on the Edit button under its title.

  1. You will then see this screen, which includes the video, video title, description, and video tags:

  1. Perform the following checks:

  • Watch the entire video (you can speed this up by clicking on the gear icon in YouTube and changing speed to double)

  • Does the title from the Trello card match the title of the video?

  • Does the title meet the specifications from the page regarding YouTube optimization

  • Do the opening description and the rest of the description match the description from the Trello card? (You can see more of the description by dragging the box from the lower right corner)

  • Do the opening description and the rest of the description meet the specifications from the YouTube optimization page?

  • Is there enough text to appropriately describe the subject of the video and is that content relevant to the video?

  • Does the link to the client’s website work correctly? Does the content of the linked page match the content of the video?

  • Is the client contact information at the end of the description, and is it correct?

    1. Dealer Name

    2. Dealership Location

    3. Dealership Number

    4. Dealership Site

  • Fix any spelling or grammar errors you come across

  • Back on the Trello board:

  • If the content of the video, title, opening description, text, or dealership information doesn't match the Trello card, write a note on the card detailing exactly what you need to be fixed and move the Trello card back into the “(Current Month) Assigned” column. Tag it with a yellow "Issues" label and copy the Trello card URL into a Slack message to the seo_juniper Slack channel with a quick note that a correction is needed.

  • If anything doesn't meet the criteria of the YouTube optimization wiki page, move the Trello card back into the “(Current Month) Assigned” column. Tag it with a yellow "Issues" label, write a note on the card detailing exactly what you need to be fixed, and copy the Trello card URL into a Slack message to the responsible SEO rep with a quick note that a correction is needed.

  • If no corrections are needed, move your card into the respective “(Next Month) Assigned” or “(Next Month) Unassigned” columns, depending on whether or not a YouTube video assignment has been made yet for the following month.

    1. Example: If you’re working in the March 2018 QA column, you’ll move your card into the April Assigned column or April Unassigned column.

  1. On the YouTube channel page, make the video Public.

  1. Scroll down and on the right-hand side, click Publish to publish the video.

  1. Now go to the SEO Monthly Sheet, make sure that you are in the "Current Month" tab, scroll to the right, and find the column "YouTube QA" . Put a "1" in the box for the dealer whose video you just QA'd.

  1. You're all finished!
