This SOP is a work in progress. If you notice anything that is out of date, could be more clear or could be more efficient please update the SOP or add a comment to start a conversation.

This guide is ONLY for old Platinum package SEO clients and will eventually be phased out.

Purpose

The purpose of this doc is to outline the correct steps in the process of setting up a YouTube account for an SEO client. When a dealer does not already have a YouTube channel you have the option to either give them the instructions to set one up or set one up for them. If your dealer seems technologically competent, you can give them the chance to set one up themselves. However, it may be best to set one up for them to save time and ensure it is done correctly and efficiently.

Procedure

Follow the guide below to create a YouTube channel for a client.

When You Don’t Have YouTube Access

If you have a client that has signed up for a package that includes YouTube but you do not yet have access to their YouTube channel, you will still want to propose videos for every month so that when you do gain access, it will be easy to get caught up.

  1. Create a card in the YouTube Trello board and leave in the column titled “Needs YouTube Credentials/Setup.”

  2. Each month, post your proposed videos to the card as you would for a normal YouTube client.

  3. In the YouTube tab of your client sheet, document the proposed videos as you would for a normal YouTube client. Add a note, “Waiting on YouTube Channel” in the next available cell to keep track of which videos have been proposed but not yet posted while the YouTube channel is unavailable.

When to Create a YouTube Channel

There are a few cases when it may be best to set up a YouTube channel for your dealer:

  1. Your client does not have a YouTube channel, nor do they seem particularly capable of setting one up efficiently and correctly.

  2. It has been 3 months since the start of their campaign and you have not yet received any kind of access to an existing YouTube Channel.

Having the Client Set Up YouTube

If your dealer seems technologically competent, you can send them a link with instructions for setting up YouTube. If a client says they will do this but no channel is created after a month of having had the link, move on and create the channel for them.

Setting Up YouTube Channel

  1. Navigate to YouTube in the SEO profile.

  2. In the top right hand corner, select the circle image icon that represents your account and is located next to the notifications icon (a bell).

  3. Select “view all for seo@dealerspike.com” and perform a quick search to ensure there is in fact no YouTube account already set up.

  4. Select the “Create a New Channel” button with the large plus sign.

  5. You will be taken to a page regarding Brand Accounts. In the box next to “Brand Account Name” type the name of your dealership and select Create.

  6. You will now be taken to a page that looks like a new YouTube channel and should have a blue bar with a check sign that says “You have added a channel to your account!”

  7. Add an optimized Channel description by clicking on customize channel and then go into the about section to find the add channel description option To make the best use of this field, follow the below SEO guidelines:

    1. When creating a channel description you want it to be both welcoming and packed with important information that the user will find handy.

      1. Make the first few sentences strong, with a call to action and important information about the dealership like

        1. Hours

        2. Location

        3. Product line (powersports, H-D, RVs, Balloon Animals)

      2. Also along with adding that information add links and other important details (if possible) to the description.

  8. Once your channel has been made, add the channel’s URL to your client’s trello card in the YouTube board. Ensure that the card has the SEO@ label so that Juniper will know how to access the channel.

  9. Make a note on the card that explains that this is a client with a backlog of videos that need to all be posted to YouTube as soon as possible. Then ping the Juniper chat in slack to alert them to the updated card and the proposed backlog videos.

Requesting Channel Art

  1. Navigate to the SEO/SEM Graphic Design Trello Board

  2. Under the Column titled SEO, select Add a Card.

  3. Title your card: Dealership Name - YouTube Channel Art

  4. Copy and paste the information from the YouTube template card and fill that information in on your new card.

  5. Add yourself as a member to the card.

  6. Add the SEO label to the Card.

  7. Under add, select the Due Date button and add a due date that is reasonable (about a week unless rushed - if so, directly ping one of the SEO graphic designers about the rush).

  8. When completed, the design team will automatically upload the art to your channel!

Linking Up Your YouTube Channel

Some dealers have a YouTube icon on their site and some do not. Having your YouTube channel linked to from the website is a great way to ensure that users are navigating to the correct and most current YouTube channel for your dealer.

If your dealer does not already have a YouTube Icon on their site:

  1. Ask the dealer if they would like one added.

  2. You can provide an example site such as Campers RV Center (icon at top of page) or We Ride Phoenix (icon at bottom of page) to give them an idea of where the icon might be located and what it might look like.

  3. If they are interested, submit a support ticket to support@dealerspike.com with the Dealer URL, your request to add the YouTube icon and where on the page, and the link to the YouTube channel.

If your dealer does have a YouTube icon on their site:

  1. Check with the dealer that it is okay to link up the new YouTube channel that you created.

  2. Locate your client’s folder in notepad++ and look for the link to YouTube in the index.asp or footer.asp file. If you do not find it, ask a pod lead or senior rep to help you locate it.

  3. Replace the existing YouTube link with the new channel’s link and save.

  4. Refresh your site’s page and check that you are now being directed to the correct channel.
