These instructions will assist you in gaining access to essential Google Chrome extensions and additional Chrome profiles.

Chrome Extensions

The department uses a few vital Chrome extensions to help improve your workflow.

  • To add an extension, click on the three dots to the far right of your browser window, expand the “More tools” option, then select “Extensions”

  • Click the hamburger menu on the top left of the screen and in the sidebar on the left click on “Open Chrome web store”

  • This opens the Chrome Web Store (yes, you can also just type “chrome web store” into Google) and now we’ll have you add the following Chrome extensions:

    • Google Tag Assistant - We use this to verify the correct installation and firing of Google Tag Manager and our Universal Analytics code from Google Analytics

    • Last Pass - This is a password manager tool to store your login credentials.

      • Create an account by using your work email.

    • Grammarly - This is an online spell-checker tool that works across the various platforms we are on.

      • Use your work email and set a password in order to create an account.

    • Adblock Plus - This is an ad blocker tool. You can use this to block pop-up windows that may appear on client websites.

      • Click on the extension icon in your browser window, choose “block element” and select the on-page element you’d like to block.

Additional extensions you may find helpful

  • CardCounter for Trello - We use Trello A LOT. This extension will count the number of cards in any column then display that number in the column header

  • Open Selected Links - This extension allows you highlight multiple links embedded in text and open them simultaneously

  • Chuck Enhancements for Trello - Part of using Trello is using labels. Ordinarily these labels appear as colors on each card. This extension actually writes the name of the label inside the color, so you always know which label you have or have not applied

Additional Chrome Profiles

The SEO department makes fairly extensive use of Google's suite of online and web developer tools in order to accomplish our work, things like Google Search Console (formerly Webmaster Tools), Google Analytics, Google Tag Manager, Google AdWords, and so on.

To ensure the entire team has access to the full suite of tools, we hop in and out of both the SEO and SEM Chrome profiles. This should only be done AFTER you've set up your personal Chrome profile.

  • With Chrome open, click on your name in the top right of your browser window.

  • Select “Manage profiles”.

  • In the following window that opens, select “Add”.

  • Add in the credentials for the SEO Chrome profile, which can be found in Passwordstate.

  • You may be prompted to continue the login process by using a different device. Contact the Trainer to have them complete the process.

  • Select "Link data" when prompted to access all of the tools and packages included in the SEO Chrome profile.

  • DO NOT ADJUST ANY SETTINGS. This profile is set up and maintained by the Department Manager. Any extensions, bookmarks, other settings, are maintained by them.

  • After the new Chrome profile loads, you will be able to left-click and switch seamlessly between the SEO Chrome profile and your personal Chrome profile.

    • You'll use the SEO Chrome profile every time you need to access Google Search Console (Webmaster Tools), Google Analytics, Google Tag Manager, Google AdWords, etc.

  • You’ve now installed the SEO Chrome profile! Repeat this process for the SEM Chrome profile.
