🎯 Objective
The Advanced Unit Sort feature provides dealers with greater flexibility on their listing pages by allowing them to establish multiple default sorting options. Without Advanced Unit Sort, the dealers are limited to selecting just one default sort option for their listing pages.
Default listing page sort means that when a user arrives on a listing page, the units will be sorted automatically based on the selection the dealer made in the CMS. (For example, if a dealer selects the default sort as “Price (lowest first)” a website user will see units on the listing page showing from the lowest priced unit first to the highest priced unit last) Website users have the ability to change the sort order they see on the listing page, but a default sort is set by the dealer.
⚙️ How Does it Work
Subscribing to Advanced Unit Sort gives a few additional options to the dealer for how they want units sorted by default on their listing pages.
One option that can be utilized is the sort by status feature for dealers that are using both “Active” and “Hold” statuses for their inventory. Some dealers may be marking units that are tagged with “On Order” or “Sale Pending” as “Hold” status rather than “Active” status. This allows dealers to utilize the sort by Status (A to Z) which will display all “Active” units first, then all “Hold” status units after. In the example with units tagged as “On Order” and “Sale Pending” these units would be pushed to the bottom of the listing page where all available in stock units would display at the top of the listing page.
The second options is giving dealers the ability to layer multiple sort options on a listing page. As sort options are layered in the control, that is the order the sort will be applied on the page. Some of the sort options are displayed to the user on the listing page via the sort option drop down, but some of the sort options available in the control are not displayed on the front end to the user.
The order of operations for the control is from top to bottom, so which ever sort options are at of the list, it will accomplish those sorts before others at the bottom of the list.
When a dealer selects the default sort order, if a sort option selected is one of the available sort options in the drop down, it will display that as the default sort option on the front end, but the backend will continue to follow the sort order that the dealer selected. (Example: if a dealer has 3 layers of sort selected 1.) Status (A to Z), 2.) Condition (New First), 3.) Price (Lowest First). In this example the dealer wants to show all their “Active” status units first, then display New Units first, then displays units with the Lowest Price. To the user on the listing page, in the sort field they will see “Price (Lowest First)”.)
If a dealer selects two sort options that are both available in the sort drop down menu on the website, which ever sort comes first in the controls order of operations from will display that sort as the default to the user on the website (Example: If the dealer has the sort order as 1.) Status, 2.) Year (newest), 3.) Price (lowest first), because both Year (newest) and Price (lowest first) are both options in the sort drop down, and because Year (newest) was the first sort option that is in the UI, it will display Year (newest) in the sort field by default to the user rather than Price (lowest first)
New Feature Coming Soon (June 2024)
We are adding additional default sort option. Dealers will now have the ability to select in the multi sort order the Distance (Closest) sort option. Previously dealers were not able to set Distance (Closest) as a default sort option because a user needed to take action (add in their zip code) to be able to sort Distance (Closest). Now that we have implemented the work to identify the users estimated zip code by the IP Geo Location tool, we can now determine the users estimated zip code based on their IP address. This added enhancement removes the need for a user to take action to determine which units are closest to them.
The auto zip code detect functionality only works for dealers that is either subscribe to Advanced Unit Sort or Shop by Distance features.
